Our Story
For over 30 years, Esoke has been the heartbeat of cultural expression in Kansas City — uplifting youth, preserving African traditions, and igniting stages with the vibrant rhythms of West African dance and drumming. From performing at Kansas City’s prestigious International Ball to earning a resolution from the mayor, Esoke is a cultural force you don’t want to miss!

Founded in 1988 and now a powerhouse nonprofit, Esoke’s work with KC schools, youth organizations, and art institutions has transformed thousands of lives through dance, drum, language, and creative expression. Under the artistic direction of Yaminah Muhammad — a world traveler and master artist who’s studied in Senegal, Gambia, and Barbados — Esoke brings authenticity and soul to every performance.
